Yes, on Monday night (June 30th) ELC received a large lightning strike to the Wet Lab Pavilion. The entire Wet Lab and Classroom are a 100% loss. The public bathrooms also caught on fire and were ruined.
That's the bad news. Here is the good news:
1) ELC is open for free visitation on the days and hours listed to the left. Yes, your visit will be different, but you can still walk on our boardwalks, shop in our gift shop, and see our native plant gardens.
2) All of ELC's programs INCLUDING SUMMER CAMPS are continuing. No programs have been canceled.
3) How to help? Supporters like you are stopping by to say "How may we help?" Honestly, as simple as it sounds, what we need most of all is money. We need cash to help us rebuild, create new exhibits, and purchase new equipment.

More Facts:
~ELC does have insurance. It is likely that the insurance will not cover all of the costs associated with getting us back to where we were. This is a huge, huge loss.
~At this point our telephones are not working properly. We hope they will be restored in the next 2 days.
~ ELC is open Tues - Fri 10am - 4pm, Sat 9am - 12pm, Sun 1pm - 4pm. WE WILL BE CLOSED ON 4TH OF JULY.
~ All programs are proceeding, including Summer Camps. We are in full operation, slightly limping along, but soon enough ELC will be back to normal and even better than we were before - with YOUR HELP. Thank you for your concern.
